“Look where you want to go!” Was the message I was taught over and over again in motorcycle school. And it’s true!
The motorcycle goes in the direction you are looking. This was such a scary concept for me when I began riding a motorcycle because I always need to see where I am going.
I had been riding for a bit when I went by the school and was asked how I was doing. I mentioned that I had been experiencing some dizziness and wobbles but it wasn’t dangerous – more curious.
They asked me where my chin was. It was down! They said to keep my chin up so my head is straight looking in the direction I wanted to go. All my dizziness and wobbling disappeared! I felt strong and grounded and firmly rooted in the direction I was headed including when I was making a U turn and had my head cranked as far as I could looking behind me. This was a brand new technique on so many levels.
When I thought about how I am approaching life I realized that it is the same principle. I need to decide where I want to go or what I want to accomplish and set my sight firmly in that direction trusting that the partnership of my own brain and this Universe will conspire to take me there.
Napoleon Hill once said “Knowledge is not power. Knowledge is potential power! Knowledge without action is completely useless!” Sometimes I lose focus and get distracted gathering knowledge.
My brain is always changing whether I pay attention of not. Thatโs why itโs so important to focus and look in the direction I want to go. Like making a mark on a page. At first itโs so faint but if I keep going over and over it, pretty soon it will become more defined and more permanent, a groove that I will naturally follow.
My attention and focus is always going to be somewhere which means my brain will constantly be making and erasing marks on my direction. I can continue scribbling my way along or I can be more intentional and really get those grooves happening.
