CW Coffee Colours

This morning I was remembering back when I was 20 and my son was 2 and a half and I was in trouble! I honestly didn’t know what to do. I would say “don’t touch” and 2 minutes later he was touching! Direct defiance! No matter what I did, he just seemed to not care to listen. I picked up a book on personality temperaments and my mind was blown. It turns out that he was Just Like Me! He honestly forgot – just like I honestly forgot to shut the cupboard doors in the kitchen. This was my first lesson that we humans are built differently than each other and is cause for so much friction between us.

There are inherent differences in how we human behave which can be perceived with curiosity or seen as a threat. One framework is the True Colors utilizing the colors Blue (emotionally driven, seeks harmony, enthusiastic); Gold (loyalty driven, respects rules/authority, responsible); Orange (short term driven, welcomes change and variety, adventurous); Green (logically driven, independent thinker, focused). Each type reacts differently to situations. For example merging into a highway when there is a long line. Gold goes to the back because that’s the rules. Blue goes to the back too, but could let people in – no big deal. Green is more strategic and goes toward the back but slips into a gap created by a big truck. Orange is the one that zips up to the front and sneaks in.

Each style could potential have issue with one or all of the other styles. I lived my life “when you’re happy I am safe” and attempted to be the style that you were. Exhausting! This helped me learn what my style was and I began the process of being okay being different than someone else. A method I use to help me remember that it’s okay to be different is “just get curious!” I find that when I am curious it diffuses my anger or frustration and allows me to be open to another’s style or experience. Slowly but surely, little by little the little is becoming a lot and I am more and more content. 💕
